Oren M. Spiegler – 2/21/13

What about female pope?; Oren Spiegler; Beaver County Times; February 21, 2013.

Mr. Spiegler is such a prolific letter writer the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review gave him a little tribute back in 2003.  Google “Oren M. Spiegler” and you’ll get more hits than you know what to do with.  Unfortunately, prolific is not a synonym for competent.  Mr. Spiegler claims to be a Republican.  In my critique of “Breathing more freely,” I cited reasons why I was “beginning to believe Mr. Spiegler is simply another Republican impersonator,” but he sealed the deal with “Greatest foreign policy debacle.”  Subsequent letters provided more confirmation.  The group of local Republican impersonators also includes Messrs. William A. Alexander, Arthur Brown, Edward J. Hum, Bill Ralston, and George Reese, all claiming to be disgruntled Republicans.

You can find links to previous critiques of Spiegler letters I critiqued here, here, here, here, here, here, here, and here.  The most recent critique was of “Invasive exams should apply to men as well.”

Below is a detailed critique of the subject letter.

“As the Catholic Church scrambles to find a successor to Pope Benedict XVI, why are we not hearing anything about leading candidates for the position among women?”

[RWC] Mr. Spiegler knows the answer, but you’ll find a good explanation in “Why not women priests? The papal theologian explains” (Francis X. Rocca; Catholic News Service; January 31, 2013).

“The church is an organization that recognizes the value of all human beings and the mammoth contributions women have made to our society, does it not?  How is a policy of baseless discrimination justified in what we would like to believe is an era of enlightenment?

“Would molester priests have been shielded and shuffled from parish to parish if there had been a female pope and female Cardinals in the era in which their crime spree was in its heyday?”

[RWC] In case you’re wondering why lefties don’t like organized religion, especially the Christian variety, it’s simple.  Leftism is itself a religion and, just like other religions, its first commandment is “I am the LORD your God: you shall not have strange Gods before me.”
