Trump got played; America got nothing; Thomas M. Finch; Beaver County Times; June 17, 2018.

The BCT has published at least 53 letters from Mr. Finch (TMF) since December 2004.  At least 31 of these letters were anti-Bush and/or anti-Republican and they never disappoint.  Here is one example.  You can find the remaining Finch letters I critiqued in the critique archives.  As usual, this letter is little more than a string of leftist talking points.  I wish he could get a regular column in the BCT.  I also wish he could get at least five minutes per day on a local radio and/or TV station.  The most recent Finch letters I reviewed were “Truth may be disagreeable, but it’s not ‘fake news,’” “How can we support such an inept president,” “‘Trumpcare’ means lousy coverage, higher premiums” and “Trump doesn’t deserve to be admired, supported.”

Below is a review of the subject letter.

“It galls me to have to refute letter writer O.J. Schlueter’s attack of letter writer Oren Spiegler, all for the sake of promoting the dubious virtues of ‘conservatism.’

“It is ironic that when President Obama said he would meet with North Korea, Faux News branded him a traitor, kissing up to dictators; but after Trump’s meeting — which gained America nothing — every conservative patriot expects him to win the Nobel Peace Prize.”

[RWC] It appears TMF doesn’t know the definition of “ironic.”  I believe the word TMF was looking for was “hypocritical.”

Does TMF expect readers to believe BHO didn’t meet with Kim Jong-un because “Faux News branded him a traitor?”

TMF didn’t mention what Mr. Obama (BHO) did to get a Nobel Peace Prize less than nine months after taking office.

“To state that ‘our current president’s leadership has far outshined the past few presidents ...’ is naive at best, and delusional at worst, given the fact that Trump is a lying, racist narcissist who has done nothing with all the power that less than half of America voted to give him.”

[RWC] When you can’t win with legitimate debate, go for claiming your opposition is racist, a Nazi, and so on.

“Oh, wait, I forgot the GOP tax scam peanuts that justifies letting the wealthy add millions to their coffers.  How much money did Trump garner for his own personal family fortune from that?  Look up the term ‘emoluments clause.’  The gutless enablers in the GOP let him totally get away with it.”

[RWC] The “Emoluments Clause” of Article. I, Section. 9 reads, “No Title of Nobility shall be granted by the United States: And no Person holding any Office of Profit or Trust under them, shall, without the Consent of the Congress, accept of any present, Emolument, Office, or Title, of any kind whatever, from any King, Prince, or foreign State.”

I don’t see what the “Emoluments Clause” has to do with the “The Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (TCJA).”

“The end result of the big summit is we give North Korea a chance to prosper — which also aids Trump’s dictatorial allies in Russia and China — and we get to leave South Korea unprotected because the North will claim they got rid of all their nukes.”

[RWC] How did we “leave South Korea unprotected?”  DT simply suspended the military exercises which can be restarted quickly.

“The ‘deal-maker’ got played, but the state propaganda network (Faux News) will claim it to be an overwhelming success.  Just more lies.”

[RWC] About 10 months ago, TMF wrote, “Trump’s sabre-rattling bluster will do nothing to rein in North Korea and it certainly doesn’t scare the lunatic in command over there, which shows how inept the man is at any kind of tactful dialogue.  He’d rather risk nuclear confrontation.”

Did “Trump get played” as TMF claims?  Who knows?  Given our history with NK regardless of our president at the time, I don’t expect anything will come of the DT/Kim Singapore summit and their joint statement.  That said, DT got further in less than 17 months than BHO did in eight years.
