Why not use Taser or pepper spray?; Larry H. Mason; Beaver County Times; December 5, 2014.

Among previous letters from Mr. Mason were “President Obama did the right thing,” “Western Pennsylvanians getting what they voted for,” “Collective bargaining a right,” “Many Americans squander an asset,” “Letting the voters have their way,” “When will troops leave Iraq?,” “Build another nuke plant,” “America must disarm Iraq,” “Win the war militarily,” “Defeat on several fronts,” and “Health care haves disdain have nots.”

Below is a detailed critique of the subject letter.

“Do Tasers and pepper spray work the same on blacks and whites?  Why not Taser or pepper-spray Michael Brown?”

[RWC] You can find my comments on Ferguson here.

“He was not carrying a gun.  Why shoot him dead?  To teach him and them a lesson?

“Police rule No. 1 is use the least amount of force neccesary [sic].”

[RWC] Unless he is willfully ignorant, Mr. Mason likely knows the answers to these questions because they are covered in the released grand jury documents.  In short, Officer Wilson didn’t have a Taser and decided against using his Mace because he was still in his vehicle and in that confined space the Mace could have impaired his ability to defend himself.  Mr. Wilson considered other means to defend himself but his firearm was the only weapon he had he could use.
