It’s marijuana laws that are stupid; David V. Matthews; Beaver County Times; October 31, 2010.

For background, in previous letters Mr. Matthews told us there’s no liberal media bias, President Bush committed treason, he’s positive creation played no role in our evolution, President Bush plans to nuke Iran this year (2006), “Centrism is Bushism,” the Bush administration may be “conducting warrantless surveillance upon” us, the Bush administration is “warlike and imperialist,” and President Bush “finds the war he started amusing.”  Mr. Matthews also gave us a lesson in creative reading, refers to employers as “rich overlords,” and told us to “Use taxes to give peace a chance” and “Media are to blame for cluelessness.”

Below is a detailed critique of the subject letter.

“Wednesday’s editorial (‘Stupid is as...’) ridiculed a ‘stupid’ man who had ‘called Fayette County 911 last week to complain about the quality of the marijuana he had bought.’

“As a result of ‘his stupidity,’ the police ‘plan on charging him with possession of a counterfeit controlled substance.’

“Has The Times ever run an editorial calling anti-pot laws stupid?  They illegalize a substance less dangerous than tobacco or alcohol, and they keep jails and prisons crowded with mostly nonviolent offenders.

“Also, has The Times ever called any powerful figure stupid, or does it save the name-calling for the powerless?”

[RWC] Is Mr. Matthews serious?  Name-calling is SOP for Times editorials and for in-house pundits Gino Piroli and J.D. Prose.  Perhaps Mr. Matthews didn’t care as long as people he supports weren’t the target.
