Trump has done nothing to improve the country; Linda Vetterly (LV); Beaver County Times; July 28, 2017.

Previous Vetterly letters I reviewed were “Trump needs to go before it’s too late,” “Trump threatens our status throughout the world,” and “Relieving real desperation.”  The BCT published “What’s it going to take to impeach Trump?” a week after this letter.

Below is a detailed critique of the subject letter.

“If President Trump really wants to ‘make America great again,’ and if he had the sense God gave a goat, then why can’t he give up some of his billions and put America to work fixing the infrastructure?

“I’m tired of hearing about water main breaks, buildings collapsing, bridges falling apart and other disasters.  Trump has so much money he won’t release his tax returns.  All he does is alienate our allies and tick off North Korea.  He constantly tweets, but won’t really do anything to help America.  He lies and hurts, but has done nothing to ‘make America great again.’”

[RWC] “water main breaks, buildings collapsing” are not the feds’ responsibility.

Though there must be exceptions, every example I’ve seen of “bridges falling apart” had nothing to do with insufficient maintenance.  For example, the Interstate 75 overpass that “collapsed” in Cincinnati was undergoing demolition after its replacement opened and collapsed due to contractor error!  The I-35W bridge in Minneapolis collapsed during maintenance.  The cause was a design flaw eventually exposed by the weight of added pavement over the years and overloading with maintenance material and equipment.

What are the “other disasters?”

“Alienating our allies” really means insisting NATO allies fulfill their financial and military commitments.  NATO guidelines recommend each member spend at least 2% of its GDP on defense.  As of 2015, only five of NATO’s 28 members met their commitment.  Of the Baltic states, only Estonia (2.04%) meets its obligation.  Latvia (1.06%) and Lithuania (1.14%) don’t come close.

In first place was the U.S. at 3.62%.  The other four NATO members who met their 2015 commitment were Greece (2.46%), Poland (2.18%), the U.K. (2.07%), and Estonia (2.04%).

“tick off North Korea?”  NK’s behaving the same way it has for decades regardless of who is our president.

“He just preaches hate.  Hillary Clinton would have been 100 percent better.  She had the experience and was great.  The fact that Trump is our president is nothing but a farce.”

[RWC] “Hate” – along with bigot, homophobe, racist, sexist, and so on – is one of those words abused into “cried wolf” status.

LV also made the “experience” claim in her letter “Trump threatens our status throughout the world.”  What was Mrs. Clinton’s relevant “experience” and what made her “great?”  Please read here, here, and here.

“Let him do at least one good thing instead of trying to ruin a decent health-care system.

[RWC] What makes Obamacare “a decent health-care system?”
