What’s it going to take to impeach Trump?; Linda Vetterly (LV); Beaver County Times; August 4, 2017.

Previous Vetterly letters I reviewed were “Trump has done nothing to improve the country,” “Trump needs to go before it’s too late,” “Trump threatens our status throughout the world,” and “Relieving real desperation.”

Below is a detailed critique of the subject letter.


“President Trump is at it again.”

[RWC] And so is LV.  This is LV’s fourth anti-Trump rant since Donald Trump (DT) took office, and the second in the last eight days.  Much of the letter is a regurgitation of its predecessors.

“First, he tries to get the attorney general to retire.  This is a man who supported him from the beginning and has always been a loyal supporter and good at this job.”

[RWC] Keep in mind LV likely opposed Jeff Sessions’ (JS) appointment as AG, as did local fellow-travelers Lonzie Cox, Thomas Finch, and Cindi Kincaid.  In case you missed it, lefties really disliked JS until DT publicly expressed his displeasure with JS recusing himself from the Russia stuff.

“Then he breaks another campaign promise and tries to get transgender people kicked out of the military after many have served their country loyally for many, many years.  This could cost them the pensions and benefits that they have worked hard to earn.”

[RWC] I don’t know if this action is the right or wrong thing to do, but as far as I can tell, DT didn’t make any promises regarding transgenders and military service.

“He said during the campaign, ‘Are you going to listen to Hillary’s words or my actions?’  Well, his actions speak words.  North Korea is testing missile after missile to try to bomb as far away as the central United States.”

[RWC] Hillary Clinton (HRC) was Sec. of State (2009-2012).  Why didn’t HRC fix the North Korea problem?

NK’s behaving the same way it has for decades regardless of who is our president. 

“He has lied and turned his back on everyone he claims to support.  He thinks because he has money, he is some kind of God.  He is nothing but a bully who half the time isn’t even man enough to say things.  Instead, the world finds out by his tweets.”

[RWC] For someone who claims “Hillary Clinton would have been 100 percent better” than DT, she should probably stay away from the lying issue.

“What is it going to take to get him out of office?  A nuclear war with North Korea?”

[RWC] Impeachment in government is like an indictment for the rest of us.  Just like an indictment, the impeachment target is innocent until proven guilty.  Impeaching a president doesn’t get her/him “removed from Office” unless the president is found guilty of one or more charges.

U.S. Constitution Article II, Section 4: “The President, Vice President and all civil Officers of the United States, shall be removed from Office on Impeachment for, and Conviction of, Treason, Bribery, or other high Crimes and Misdemeanors.”

U.S. Constitution Article I, Section 2: “The House of Representatives shall chuse their Speaker and other Officers; and shall have the sole Power of Impeachment.”

U.S. Constitution Article I, Section 3: “The Senate shall have the sole Power to try all Impeachments.  When sitting for that Purpose, they shall be on Oath or Affirmation.  When the President of the United States is tried, the Chief Justice shall preside: And no Person shall be convicted without the Concurrence of two thirds of the Members present.

“Judgment in Cases of Impeachment shall not extend further than to removal from Office, and disqualification to hold and enjoy any Office of honor, Trust or Profit under the United States: but the Party convicted shall nevertheless be liable and subject to Indictment, Trial, Judgment and Punishment, according to Law.”

“Even our allies have been alienated.  He is dangerous, unstable and needs to be impeached before it is too late.

[RWC] “Even our allies have been alienated” really means insisting NATO allies fulfill their financial and military commitments.  NATO guidelines recommend each member spend at least 2% of its GDP on defense.  As of 2015, only five of NATO’s 28 members met their commitment.  Of the Baltic states, only Estonia (2.04%) meets its obligation.  Latvia (1.06%) and Lithuania (1.14%) don’t come close.

In first place was the U.S. at 3.62%.  The other four NATO members who met their 2015 commitment were Greece (2.46%), Poland (2.18%), the U.K. (2.07%), and Estonia (2.04%).

“Wake up, America, before he gets us all killed.”
