Letter: Rothfus has done nothing; Lamb deserves a chance; Thomas M. Finch; Beaver County Times; August 31, 2018.

The BCT has published at least 54 letters from Mr. Finch (TMF) since December 2004.  At least 31 of these letters were anti-Bush and/or anti-Republican and they never disappoint.  Here is one example.  You can find the remaining Finch letters I critiqued in the critique archives.  As usual, this letter is little more than a string of leftist talking points.  I wish he could get a regular column in the BCT.  I also wish he could get at least five minutes per day on a local radio and/or TV station.  The most recent Finch letters I reviewed were “Don’t believe what Republicans are selling,” “Trump got played; America got nothing,” “Truth may be disagreeable, but it’s not ‘fake news,’” “How can we support such an inept president,” “‘Trumpcare’ means lousy coverage, higher premiums” and “Trump doesn’t deserve to be admired, supported.”

Below is a review of the subject letter.

“It seems that letter writer Roy Whipple is emulating Faux News, ‘the Trump propaganda network,’ by supporting the adage, ‘If you can’t say something nice about someone, just make up some slander…’

[RWC] Has TMF read his own letters?

“Name-calling with dubious claims of ‘socialism’ is a last-ditch effort that reeks of McCarthy-era ‘Red Scare’ paranoia.  If you want to talk about symbols of failed governance, leave Aliquippa High School’s air-conditioning system out of it and look at our present federal Republican train wreck led by an incompetent, megalomaniacal racist who has more in common with a spoiled brat like the fictional Veruca Salt than a real leader like Sen. John McCain.”

[RWC] What was that about “‘If you can’t say something nice about someone, just make up some slander …?’”

When did the-late Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) become “a real leader” in TMF’s eyes?

In “No more GOP incompetence” (10/29/08), TMF wrote, “As for being a fascist, …, McCain, …, … and the entire spectrum of rightwing faithful who echo their platitudes are the true poster boys of fascism in America.”

In “Republicans can only spread lies” (10/16/2008), TMF wrote, “It disgusts me to consider that John McCain has a real chance to win this election.”

In “Smear attacks starting early” (4/13/2008), TMF wrote, “No sane person believes that McCain - with his 100 more years of war in Iraq, and an economic package that ignores the lower and middle classes - is a better choice.”

“U.S. Rep. Keith Rothfus has done nothing for the common good in his entire tenure in Congress, unless you count supporting Trump’s lies about ‘clean coal’ (no such thing), posing with veterans and aligning himself with his Tea Party colleagues to support cuts to VA benefits, Medicare and Social Security while providing millions in tax cuts for the wealthiest 1 percent - just like a true Republican.  To give Rothfus credit for creating jobs is a fiction similar to giving Trump credit for how well the economy is doing.  Maybe your investment portfolio is up, but the average guy still must work three jobs to afford decent health care.”

[RWC] Blah, blah, blah.

“Conor Lamb deserves a chance to actually make improvements.  Electing more Democrats is the only means of recovery from the current Trump nightmare.  Lamb’s got my vote.”

[RWC] More blah, blah, blah.
