Ask candidates lots of questions; Lynn Coleman Gardner; Beaver County Times; October 27, 2010.

Previous letters from Ms. Gardner are here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, and here.

Below is a detailed critique of the subject letter.

“Make it your responsibility as much as possible to meet the candidates running for state and federal positions.”

[RWC] What about candidates running for local offices?

“Here are the following questions that I have asked. (I’m interested in running for local office.)”

[RWC] You’ll find Ms. Gardner’s seven questions could have been asked in one question, “Do you support leftist policies and programs?”

“- What are your plans for helping to bring jobs to Beaver County?

“- How are you driving or influencing improvements in early childhood education in Beaver County?”

[RWC] Isn’t this a parental responsibility?

“- Did you vote in favor of health-care reform?  If not, why?”

[RWC] Please read my paper entitled “Healthcare.”

“- What is your response to cutting or reducing social service programs like Medicaid and Social Security disability?

“- Do you believe in privatizing retirement plans?  If so, why?”

[RWC] Except for Medicare and Socialist Security, aren’t all “retirement plans” already “privatized?”

“- Do you believe the Bush tax cuts on the wealthy, which serve just 2 percent of our nation, should be repealed, and should the middle class tax cuts, which serve 98 percent of our nation, be renewed?”

[RWC] Since 2003, haven’t lefties like Ms. Gardner told us the tax rate cuts were only for “the wealthy?”  When did Ms. Gardner figure out everyone received rate cuts?  As a reminder, even with rate cuts, “the wealthy” paid a higher portion of taxes than they did before.  Based on 2008 income tax data, the top 1% of filers paid 38% of the total and the top 5% paid 59%.  Ms. Gardner doesn’t tell us why those who pay the least in taxes should retain their tax rates but those who pay the most should have their rates increased.

“- Do you believe in a Marcellus Shale excise tax?

“Get answers.”

[RWC] Here’s another question Ms. Gardner would probably like to ask: “Do you support the Pennsylvania and U.S. constitutions?  If so, why?”
