Thomas M. Finch – 12/26/18

Time to wake up; Thomas M. Finch; Beaver County Times; December 26, 2018.

The BCT has published at least 54 letters from Mr. Finch (TMF) since December 2004.  At least 31 of these letters were anti-Bush and/or anti-Republican and they never disappoint.  Here is one example.  You can find the remaining Finch letters I critiqued in the critique archives.  As usual, this letter is little more than a string of leftist talking points.  I wish he could get a regular column in the BCT.  I also wish he could get at least five minutes per day on a local radio and/or TV station.  The most recent Finch letters I reviewed were “Rothfus has done nothing; Lamb deserves a chance,” “Don’t believe what Republicans are selling,” “Trump got played; America got nothing,” “Truth may be disagreeable, but it’s not ‘fake news,’” “How can we support such an inept president,” “‘Trumpcare’ means lousy coverage, higher premiums” and “Trump doesn’t deserve to be admired, supported.”

Below is a review of the subject letter.

Letter writer Rita Gavert complimenting letter writer Oren Spiegler for his warm words honoring President George H.W. Bush, was certainly unexpected; maybe there can be meaningful dialogue in a kinder, gentler, political spectrum.

“Or maybe not, as the rest of her letter proceeded to disparage Spiegler by accusing him of … ‘using this as a sounding board to bash President Trump.’  I’m sorry, but he was only telling the truth.”

[RWC] TMF defended Mr. Spiegler at least once before.  In that defense, TMF referred to the late-Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) as a real leader, though TMF smeared Mr. McCain in at least three letters when Mr. McCain was alive.

“His statement about the kinder and gentler nation of President Bush ‘… having degenerated into the development of a mean-spirited, coarse, country …’ is the absolute truth.”

[RWC] I think both Rita Gavert and TMF got it wrong.  It’s obvious Mr. Spiegler was referring to Joe Biden, Hillary Clinton, Dick Durbin, Tim Kaine, Barack Obama, Nancy Pelosi, Chuck Schumer, Elizabeth Warren, and so on, plus letter-writers like TMF himself.

“Considering the glut of lies, hatefulness, ignorance, and cruelty emanating from the White House on a daily basis and the acceptance of it by fellow Republicans and his right wing-nut base, it subverts the idea that any political reconciliation will ever be possible in this country.

“Trump is a narcissist and a demagogue who tolerates zero criticism and demands utter loyalty and unquestioning obedience from his collection of corrupt minions who still work for him.  His admiration of fellow despots like Vladimir Putin and Kim Jong-Un indicates that providing a kinder, gentler nation is not on the Trump agenda.  His personality makes him incapable of empathy or compromise, like a spoiled child.”

[RWC] Does TMF read his own letters?

“Creating division among the masses and trashing the objective media truth-tellers is how dictators operate.  Wake up.”

[RWC] Blah, blah, blah.
