Republicans will do anything to win; Jesse Green, Jr.; Beaver County Times; October 25, 2012.  At the time of this writing, this letter appeared only in the print edition of the BCT.  I apologize for any transcription errors.

Some previous letters from Mr. Green are here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, and here.  You will find the central theme of most Green letters is to bash righties in general as well as specific righties.

As you read the letter below, keep in mind Mr. Green believes disagreement with President Obama’s policies is the result of racism.

Below is a detailed critique of the subject letter.

“As the election draws near, it is increasingly clear the Republicans will do anything to win.

“Let’s start with the attempt to suppress the vote.  They would have us go back to Jim Crow voting tactics in which local Klansmen, in full dress, would intimidate and scare people into not voting, but since this is 2012 not 1950, they had to upgrade their tactics.  They came up with a bogus voters [sic] fraud issue.”

[RWC] Mr. Green needs an American history refresher course.  Mr. Green described Democrat party actions through at least the mid-1960s, yet he attributed them to Republicans.

When real voter intimidation took place, Mr. Green didn’t complain when the Obama administration dropped charges (after the DOJ won the case) against New Black Panther Party members for voter intimidation during the 2008 election.  These NBPP members were caught on video at a Philadelphia polling place wearing military-style clothing with one wielding a billy club/nightstick to intimidate voters.

As for the “bogus voters [sic] fraud issue,” “Congressman’s son resigns after voter fraud video.”

Back in 2008, ACORN (Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now), the recipient of in excess of $800,000 from the Obama campaign during the 2008 primary, was under investigation for voter fraud in at least 13 states, by Democrat and Republican officials alike.  This was a recurring problem since at least 2004.  As a result of one scandal after another, ACORN legally ceased to exist, though some of its chapters simply changed names.

“And Mitt Romney is proving to be a skilled flip-flopper as well as a complete liar.  His famous 47 percent remark and (running mate) Paul Ryan’s 30 percent comments show their total disdain for hard-working Americans everywhere.”

[RWC] Regarding Mr. Romney’s “famous 47 percent remark,” at a campaign fund-raiser, an audience member asked, “For the last three years, all everybody’s been told is, ‘Don’t worry, we’ll take care of you.’  How are you going to do it, in two months before the elections, to convince everybody you’ve got to take care of yourself?”  Here’s the Romney response.

“There are 47 percent of the people who will vote for the president no matter what.  All right, there are 47 percent who are with him, who are dependent upon government, who believe that they are victims, who believe that government has a responsibility to care for them, who believe that they are entitled to health care, to food, to housing, to you name it.  That that’s an entitlement.  And the government should give it to them.  And they will vote for this president no matter what.  And I mean, the president starts off with 48, 49, 48—he starts off with a huge number.  These are people who pay no income tax.  Forty-seven percent of Americans pay no income tax.  So our message of low taxes doesn’t connect.  And he’ll be out there talking about tax cuts for the rich.  I mean that’s what they sell every four years.  And so my job is not to worry about those people—I’ll never convince them that they should take personal responsibility and care for their lives.  What I have to do is convince the 5 to 10 percent in the center that are independents that are thoughtful, that look at voting one way or the other depending upon in some cases emotion, whether they like the guy or not, what it looks like.  I mean, when you ask those people…we do all these polls—I find it amazing—we poll all these people, see where you stand on the polls, but 45 percent of the people will go with a Republican, and 48 or 4…”

The full transcript of Mr. Romney’s comments as published by Mother Jones.

I encourage you to read all of Mr. Ryan’s comments.  Below are excerpts.

“We are reaching a fiscal tipping point.  The moral tipping point is even worse.  And the moral tipping point is before too long we could become a society we were never ever intended to be.  We could become a society where the net majority of Americans are takers, not makers. …

“Today, 70 percent of Americans get more benefits from the federal government in dollar value than they pay back in taxes.  So you could argue that we’re already past that [moral] tipping point.

“The good news is survey after survey, poll after poll, still shows that we are a center-right, 70-30 country.  Seventy percent of Americans want the American dream.  They believe in the American idea.  Only 30 percent want their welfare state.  What that tells us is at least half of those people who are currently in that category are there not of their wish or their will.”

How do these comments by Messrs. Romney and Ryan “show their total disdain for hard-working Americans everywhere?”

“We steelworkers, firefighters, teachers, factory workers and others are not afforded tax loopholes on Swiss bank accounts.  We pay our taxes.”

[RWC] I think Mr. Green is trying to convince us having “Swiss bank accounts” is a tax dodge.  They are not.  For 2011, the Romneys paid $1.95 million in federal income taxes and donated $4 million to charity.

“The recent dip in the unemployment rate is further proof President Obama’s policies are working.  If Romney and his Republican followers will not get aboard, then please get out of the way.  America is on the move gain [sic].”

[RWC] The unemployment rate is now (September 2012) exactly what it was when Mr. Obama took office.  This “is further proof President Obama’s policies are working?”  The unemployment rate was 7.8% for January 2009, the month Mr. Obama took office.  The rate was 7.8% for September 2012, the first time since January 2009 it was below 8%.  Further, the September 2012 data doesn’t appear to make sense.
