Lynn Coleman Gardner – 5/30/14

This page was last updated on May 30, 2014.

Hillary is ready for presidency; Lynn Coleman [Gardner]; Beaver County Times; May 30, 2014.  Though the letter was signed “Lynn Coleman,” I’m guessing this is the same author who signed her name “Lynn Coleman Gardner,” also of White Township, to previous letters.  If any readers know differently, please let me know.

Ms. Gardner has written at least 58 letters since 2005.  Previous letters from Ms. Gardner I critiqued are here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, and here.

Below is a detailed critique of the subject letter.

“On May 27, The Times printed an interesting article: ‘Is Hillary too old to be President?’

“It wasn’t my immediate thought.  Yes, age is a factor to consider in the office of the Presidency.  However, it is not the biggest factor I would take a look at.

“She’s well seasoned for the position, she’s been in the political arena for many, many years, and I believe she has a sharp mind and could do the job well.

[RWC] “Well seasoned” doing what?  Mrs. Clinton was a carpet-bagging (She never lived in NY before running for the Senate.) U.S. senator for eight years with no accomplishments.  Likewise, there were no significant accomplishments during Mrs. Clinton’s four years as Secretary of State, but the Benghazi incident and its aftermath were huge black marks.  As for being “in the political arena for many, many years,” would most of us consider that a big plus?

“In other considerations, one might wonder if we are ready for a female president.  Absolutely, yes.  Also, in this position, you have many advisers.”

[RWC] What does a person’s sex have to do with being President and why does Ms. Coleman feel the need to mention “many advisers” apparently to assuage any concerns about a female president?  If it came from a man, Ms. Coleman would jump on this comment as sexist.

“She’s had a few health issues, but you can have health issues at any age.  I would even trust her judgment on a good vice president.  There’s a lot of ways to look at the whole picture, and in my opinion, she qualifies.”

[RWC] So, if Mrs. Clinton is so great, why did Ms. Coleman choose Barack Obama over Mrs. Clinton in 2008?  I know, I know.  Ms. Coleman chose Mr. Obama because of his “impressive” “qualifications to be president,” the “content of his character,” and “he’s a respectable man of his word.” <g>
