Lynn Coleman Gardner – 1/7/18

This page was last updated on January 23, 2018.

Obama was a role model; Trump an embarrassment; Lynn Coleman [Gardner] (LC); Beaver County Times; January 7, 2018.  Though the letter was signed “Lynn Coleman,” I’m guessing this is the same author who signed her name “Lynn Coleman Gardner,” also of White Township, to previous letters.  If any readers know differently, please let me know.

Ms. Gardner has written at least 66 letters since 2005.  Previous letters from Ms. Gardner I critiqued are here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, and here.

Below is a detailed critique of the subject letter.

“To say I’m ticked is putting it very mildly.  I’m ticked because President Donald Trump can get away with touching women inappropriately, as many women have come forth to tell their story.”

[RWC] My records only go back to 2005, but in none of those letters did LC claim to be “ticked” about Bill Clinton’s treatment of women or his wife’s attempts to cover up that treatment.

“His profanity is so unprofessional of a president.”

[RWC] Agreed, though he isn’t the first and won’t be the last.  For example, near an open microphone, then-VP Joe Biden referred to Obamacare as “a big f***in’ deal” after introducing then-President Obama at a White House press conference.  I don’t recall LC complaining about it.

“If President Barack Obama did things like Trump has been been [sic] doing, there’s absolutely no question what would have happened to him in a split-second.  I can tell you this: He would not have been in the White House for eight years.”

[RWC] Sure.  Hijacking a Donald Trump quote, “BHO could stand in the middle of Fifth Avenue and shoot somebody, okay, and [he] wouldn’t lose any voters, okay?’”

“President Obama was a good role model and a family man.  Hats off to him.”

[RWC] Even after he conceded he didn’t have the facts yet, then-President Obama (BHO) claimed “the Cambridge police acted stupidly” when one of his buddies was arrested.  They did not.

While pushing Obamacare, BHO accused doctors of performing unnecessary amputations and tonsillectomies to line their pockets.

In the “making Obamacare promises he couldn’t possibly keep” category, did LC forget BHO claimed we could keep the doctor we wanted, we could keep our current medical insurance if we wanted, and “we’ll [President Obama] lower [medical insurance] premiums by up to $2,500 for a typical family per year?”

Here’s an excerpt from CNN’s Ballot Bowl ’08.

“SNOW: Welcome back to CNN’s edition of BALLOT BOWL.  This is a chance for you to hear directly from the candidates.  I’m Mary Snow in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, where Senator Barack Obama is holding a town hall meeting right now, taking questions from the audience.  Let’s go to straight to Senator Barack Obama.  He just was asked a question about how his administration, if he’s elected, would deal with the issue of HIV and AIDS and also sexually transmitted diseases with young girls.  Here’s Senator Barack Obama.

“OBAMA: -- or we give them really expensive surgery and we don’t spend money on the front end keeping people healthy in the first place.  So when it comes specifically to HIV/AIDS, the most important prevention is education, which should include -- which should include abstinence education and teaching the children -- teaching children, you know, that sex is not something casual.  But it should also include -- it should also include other, you know, information about contraception because, look, I’ve got two daughters, 9 years old and 6 years old.  I am going to teach them first of all about values and morals.

But if they make a mistake, I don’t want them punished with a baby.  I don’t want them punished with an STD at the age of 16.  You know, so it doesn’t make sense to not give them information.  You still want to teach them the morals and the values to make good decisions.  That will be important, number one.  Then we’re still going to have to provide better treatment for those who do have -- who do contract HIV/AIDS because it’s no longer a death sentence, if, in fact, you get the proper cocktails.  It’s expensive.  That’s why we want to prevent as much as possible.”

Some role model.

Having read LC’s letters for nearly 13 years, I believe she would never consider a baby to be punishment or comparable to an STD.  That said, I found no LC letters condemning BHO’s comment.  Does LC really think someone who would consider a baby to be punishment or comparable to an STD is a “role model?”

Whom did LC bash?  In her bashing of Sarah Palin, LC wrote, “Why bring so much attention to her Down syndrome baby?  What’s her point?  It’s not like she’s the first woman in the world to have this happen.  I would respect her more if she spent time raising her children and not be in the news for one reason or another.”  Incredibly, LC and her “special-needs daughter” (LC’s description) were the subject of a Sunday Times front-page article entitled “Mom’s love endures” (Adam Boone; June 16, 1996).  Pictures of Ms. Gardner and her daughter were on the front page and on page A12.  It appears everything is politics to LC.
